B&M's design as a Kaboodle kitchen
What the same kitchen, pantry and laundry would cost as a Bunnings Kaboodle flat-pack, priced unit by unit off the 3D model. It's a guide to test B&M's quote against, not a quote. Kitchen fronts are Feta Whip V (a Kaboodle colour, like B&M's Mastercraft colour), pantry and laundry in white. All figures incl GST, with the same exclusions as B&M: no appliances, tapware, splashbacks, electrical, plumbing or painting.

The stone is the catch. B&M's stone benchtop + sink line is $672.23 incl GST. Our stone package for the same benches, island and waterfall ends is about $8,520. If B&M's stone turns out to be priced near ours, their quote rises to about $37,284. We've asked them.
Materials only
Cabinetry and benchtops (including the sink and laundry tub), before labour. The stone package includes fabrication and fitting, as B&M's stone line does. Stone is kitchen only; the pantry and laundry stay laminate, as on B&M's quote.

Installed
DIY adds delivery, rubbish and about $250 of tools and consumables. Installed adds an installer at $75/h for about 80 hours. B&M's figure is the quote total.

Add about 10% contingency to any Kaboodle figure for re-orders, damaged panels and scribing (about $2,636 on the installed laminate total).
Biggest gaps
- Kitchen cabinetry. B&M $16,227 vs Kaboodle $13,582. Smaller than you'd expect, because Feta Whip V is a premium range: its doors, panels and kicks are about $7,434 of that. A white Kaboodle kitchen would cut roughly $3,000 to $4,000 (est).
- Pantry cabinetry. B&M $4,574 vs Kaboodle $1,900. Plain white boxes and open shelving are where flat-pack is cheapest.
- Stone. Runs the other way: our $8,520 against B&M's $672.
- Install. B&M $6,172 for all three areas vs about $6,330 for an installer on flat-pack, which takes longer because of the fillers and scribing.
Where Kaboodle can't match the design
- Rounded open-shelf end. No curved part in the range. Square open shelves from a 400 base instead; a curved end from a local joiner is about $600 extra.
- 650-deep benches. Kaboodle carcases are 560 deep. They're packed off the wall 70 to 90 mm and the tops ordered at 650.
- Pantry bench 500 deep. Can't be done with standard carcases. Priced at 600 deep, so the walkway drops from about 800 to 700.
- Overheads to the ceiling. Kaboodle wall units are 720 high against B&M's 870. A fixed 150 strip closes the gap to the ceiling. Same over the fridge and the 2,200 tall cupboard.
- Spice column, 112 wide. Nothing that narrow. Site-built from an end panel and shelves (about $520). Leave it out to save that.
- Push-to-open. No Kaboodle hardware. Third-party push latches on the 7 overhead doors.
- Odd widths. 703 sink base, 421 drawers, 388, 364, 745 and 690 aren't Kaboodle sizes. Substituted with 800, 450 (4 drawers), 300 + filler and 600 + fillers. About 12 fillers and scribes.
- Hafele Trigon corner. A 2-tier blind-corner pull-out instead. It reaches less of the corner.
- Island waterfall. Laminate option: panel ends, not a waterfall. Stone option: real stone waterfalls.
- Undermount sink. Laminate needs an inset sink. The undermount is in the stone option only.
What you give up, what you gain
- Fronts. Kaboodle Feta Whip V is a premium melamine door (16 mm class, est) on 16 mm white carcasses. B&M use the same 16 mm carcass board but 18 mm Mastercraft fronts, cut to size. Day to day the difference is small; the Kaboodle edges and door sizes are what you notice.
- Made to measure. B&M build every unit to the wall: 703 sink base, 421 drawers, 112 spice column, overheads to the ceiling, 650-deep carcasses. Kaboodle comes in fixed widths (150, 300, 400, 450, 600, 800, 900), so this layout needs about 12 fillers and scribes, a square end instead of the rounded one, 720-high overheads with a fixed strip to the ceiling, and packers to reach the 650 bench.
- Hardware. B&M: Hafele Alto Slim drawers, Blum hinges, a Hafele Trigon corner, a FIT 2 x 24 L bin and a Cusio cutlery tray. Kaboodle: its own soft-close runners and hinges, a 2-tier blind-corner pull-out (less reach than the Trigon), a 40 L bin and a basic plastic cutlery tray.
- Pantry depth. Kaboodle carcases are 560 deep, so the 500-deep pantry bench becomes 600 deep and the walkway drops from about 800 to 700. Cutting carcases down, or using wall cabinets as base units, gets it back but adds labour.
- Warranty. Kaboodle carries a 10-year structural warranty on carcases (Bunnings listing). Ask B&M what theirs is. Either way the Consumer Guarantees Act applies, but with DIY any fitting fault is yours.
- Lead time. Most Feta Whip V parts are Special Order (about 1 to 6 weeks). Kaboodle custom orders stop dispatching 24 Dec 2026 and restart 4 Jan 2027. B&M's lead time is still to confirm.
- Time and risk. DIY is about 80 hours of skilled work, plus re-orders for damaged or wrong parts. Allow 10% contingency. One installer and one point of responsibility is what B&M's price buys.
- Colour. Feta Whip V fronts, panels and kicks are about $7,400 of the Kaboodle kitchen. Kaboodle whites (Egg White 400 door $70 against about $139 in Feta Whip) would save roughly $3,000 to $4,000, but then it isn't like-for-like with B&M's colour fronts.
- What you gain. Price on the cabinetry, the ability to stage the work, swap colours or parts cheaply later, and buy stone from whoever is cheapest.

Installer at $75/h (Central Otago about $75 to $95). Bunnings NZ doesn't publish an install price; its service refers you to a hipages tradesperson for a quote. With stone, the fabricator fits the kitchen tops.
Riskiest assumptions
- B&M's stone line looks wrong. Until they answer, the stone comparison flatters B&M by about $7,848.
- Feta Whip V parts not listed online (400 and 600 doors, 4-drawer pack, island back panels, rangehood doors, over-fridge unit) are estimated. A Bunnings Kitchen Expert quote off the Kaboodle planner would firm them up.
- Stone rate $900/m² is the middle of the NZ range. Get two Central Otago fabricator quotes.
- Installer hours. Filler-heavy flat-pack fits often run over.
- Fit. Packing out to 650, a 600-deep pantry bench and 720 overheads change the look from B&M's drawings.
